I turned 40 last year and decided to take better charge of my health. I have a family history of heart attacks and a significant number of family members have died in their 50’s because of this. It was time to be pro-active and make sure I was doing everything I possibly could.
First good news… everything was looking great! My health, on paper, looked spectacular, especially my heart. This was a relief. I decided to go see an orthopedic surgeon to get a referral for physical therapy. After giving birth five times my core needed some strengthening. This was just a step to getting stronger and healthier.
My MRI results didn’t show what we were expecting.
My lumbar spine did show some wear and tear but nothing that PT couldn’t help. However, it did show a complicated mass on my kidney. You know it isn’t great news when you are presented with “There is a chance it is benign, but it doesn’t look good.” My sweet doctor was not wrong.
I was sent to see a kidney specialist and they ordered more extensive testing. The official diagnosis is Renal Cell Carcinoma… that dreaded cancer word. Needless to say, this was quite a shock.
I am currently being seen by my team of specialists. The plan is to go in and remove the cancer/kidney on May 5th. This will be followed by radiation if they are unable to get clear margins. All my doctors are confident I will come through just fine and are encouraged that we caught it early, as the prognosis is often tragic with this particular brand of cancer.
Our family is currently preparing for some upcoming battles! I am working hard to ramp our business back up to help cover the crazy cost of a diagnosis like this. We are working on covering health insurance deductibles, copays, labs, imaging, therapy as well as time off for recovery. If you know me, you know that I am still smiling. There have been hard moments, but I am committed to living a long life for me and my kiddos and if this is the path I travel, I will do it smiling.

$300 for Referrals!
For every referral that books a session with us will get you a $300 credit. You can use up to 5 referral credits per calendar year and the credit will last for 12 months. This means that for every two session referrals that book with us, you can qualify for a free session! Referral credits only apply to simple, full or newborn sessions, not mini sessions.
