Birth Photography

January 31, 2010

Birth photography is a unique and wonderful way to document your growing family. I have photographed births for many years and love the excitement and anticipation of a miracle. I absolutely love this part of my work. I offer birth photography in all settings – home, birth center, hospital, and by c-section.

The Details:

I offer a 30 minute consultation near my home in East Plano. During this time, we discuss your birth plans, answer any questions or concerns you may have and get to know one another. I believe it is important that you be comfortable with every person who is attending your birth. Some moms choose to have maternity portraits done and we can take that time to get to know one another better as well.

Once you have decided that you want to have your birth photographed, please contact me right away. I limit myself to only a handful of births each month. They fill up fast! I want to make sure that your due date is available. When you hire me, the birth coverage fee is due. This makes sure your due date remains open for you.  You will have time to select a package based on your needs and that portion is due near your due date. If you aren’t sure whether I am booked or not, please contact me. Depending on the situation, we may be able to make it work.

On your baby’s birth day, I arrive when you are in active labor. I try to be as discrete as possible at capturing the emotions and excitement of this day. I may wander around… just ignore me! I am looking for those small details that will make all the difference.

If you are planning a c-section, we will discuss the logistics more in depth. Please check with your OB and hospital to confirm that it is possible. I am happy to speak with anyone who may need more information. I have photographed c-sections at almost every local hospital and know it can be done! I will arrive 1.5 hours prior to your scheduled time to get all the preparation before the birth of your baby and stay thu the birth and afterwards to get all those special moments. I especially love photographing these births. Mama’s often miss so much during this time. I feel like I am able to bridge that gap and help them connect with their baby and birth experience. It is wonderful!

About 6 weeks after the birth, you will receive either your prints or DVD and your slideshow will be available online. You will receive 75-100+ images from your birth. Your images will almost always be completely black and white. I will occassionally leave one or two in color, but more often than not, they are B&W. I believe that B&W images take out the distracting details… towels, nightgowns, blood, etc and leave you only with the emotion of the moment. You focus on expressions – on the love

Don’t miss out on capturing your baby’s first moments. You can never get them back!
